When we talk about our anatomy, no rules for exercise or training exist. We have only the body rules that we should follow. This is the same in case of the myth about squatting. Well, you must have heard that if the knees went past your toes while you are squatting, then it is wrong.

Well, that’s all a load of crap we say. The squatting myth doesn’t exist. Let me prove it to you. But first of all, let’s know a bit more about this myth.

The Origin Of The Squatting Myth

So, where do you think the squatting myth came from? Well, a study in 1978 mustered the myth. Another study done in 2003 further fueled it.

According to these studies, the position of your knees decides whether you are doing a squat wrong or right. If the knees go past your toes, it’s wrong. Apparently, this increases the stress on the knees.

However, we say that this myth is wrong. How do we know that? From the Olympic weightlifters, of course. Take the examples of Clean&Jerk and Snatch. They both had their knees go past the toes while weightlifting. If the myth was true, then they would have had major injuries of course.

Sometimes, the length of the leg is also a deciding factor for the look of a person while squatting. Two people with two different lengths of legs will have their knees at different angles.

The person having the shorter leg will be able to squat in an easy manner. However, the person with the longer leg will have some difficulties. This is what we are trying to say here. When it comes to the rules of exercise, there aren’t any. It is just the body rules that you have to follow, people.
